About the Job
Project Manager
Location:
This role is based in Palo Alto, CA with travel to deployment sites required.
About Rune:
Rune helps solar and wind power plants turn financial and operational losses into revenue. We deploy hardware, software, and financial solutions to monetize energy that would otherwise go to waste. Our flagship product, the RELIC, is a modular demand response system that uses interruptible compute to capture value from curtailments, inverter outages, inverter clipping, and other sources of lost generation.
Rune is backed by leading investors including Union Square Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital, and Vestas Ventures, among others.
About your role:
As a Project Manager at Rune, you will lead projects from early-stage origination through execution, ensuring each one is properly scoped, planned, tracked, and delivered on schedule. You will be the critical link between business development and on-the-ground deployment. You will help design and develop scalable processes that enable consistent and repeatable executions as we grow.
This role is ideal for someone who is highly detail oriented, has a sharp operational mindset, and knows how to build and implement cross-functional processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Origination
Collaborate with the Business Development team to support the qualification of power partners
Coordinate initial feasibility assessments, timelines, and early technical requirements with internal stakeholders
Ensure clear handoff of opportunities from origination into structured project execution
Deal Structuring
Work with internal teams to translate commercial deal terms into clear technical scopes and project requirements
Develop structured project documentation including scopes of work, delivery schedules, and resource plans
Align expectations with partners and vendors to ensure mutual understanding of commitments and constraints
Project Planning and Scheduling
Own the end-to-end project schedule from structuring through deployment
Coordinate across supply chain, assembly, logistics, and site readiness to ensure alignment with project milestones
Track dependencies, risks, and lead times; proactively escalate issues and drive solutions
Develop and refine scalable planning processes to support a growing pipeline of projects
Energization and Commissioning
Support the Fleet Operations Manager during the energization and commissioning phase by ensuring readiness across prior project phases
Serve as the link between planning and on-the-ground deployment, ensuring all prerequisites are in place for a successful site activation
Document and resolve final project tasks prior to project status transition to O&M
Qualifications
Required: 3+ years experience in project management roles for utility-scale battery storage projects, utility-scale solar projects, and modular/containerized data centers.
Proven ability to manage complex, cross-functional projects from start to finish
Strong organizational and communication skills, with attention to detail and follow-through
Familiarity with supply chain operations, scheduling tools (e.g., Gantt, Smartsheet, Asana), and project tracking methodologies
Experience working with field teams or in operational environments
Familiarity with contract structuring, technical deal reviews, and site planning
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
What we offer:
Competitive salary
Option grants in a fast-growing, well-funded technology company.
Comprehensive, premium healthcare packages for employees and their dependents.
