This is a full time, permanent position, working 09:00 – 17:00, Monday – Friday.

Provide support by providing technical chemical expertise to the laboratory in all areas. To ensure ownership of and improvements in existing methodologies. To research and implement new technologies to improve the service to our customers. To work within the laboratory accreditation standard of ISO 17025

Job Responsibilities:

Laboratory Operations:

  • ICP Analysis: Fully trained on ICP-MS, analysis of samples and troubleshooting.

  • Housekeeping: Ensure effective housekeeping of work areas and analytical equipment.

  • Stock Management: Monitor and maintain stocks of chemicals and consumables, ensuring continuous availability in line with laboratory procedures.

  • Resource Management: Identify and specify laboratory resource needs to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the laboratory.

  • Troubleshooting: Provide analytical troubleshooting support for specialized instrumentation as required.

  • Workload Management: Volunteer to cover analytical workloads during high-demand periods and staffing shortfalls.

  • Analysis: Perform analysis under pressure while adhering to agreed turnaround times.

Quality Management:

  • ISO 17025 Compliance: Familiarize with ISO 17025 and relevant accreditation requirements, ensuring all activities meet these standards.

  • Quality Control: Oversee the preparation and accurate recording of all standards and chemicals for analysis. Maintain records for internal and external audits.

  • Proficiency Testing: Participate in external proficiency testing to maintain method competency and support the laboratory’s quality management system.

  • Documentation: Maintain laboratory quality management system documentation and ensure effective communication at all levels within the laboratory.

  • Uncertainty of Measurement: To maintain uncertainty of measurement for current methods

  • Continuous Improvement: Promote Lean Management, suggest improvements to analytical processes, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

  • 5S and Lean Management: Actively promote and implement 5S and Lean Management principles within the department to enhance efficiency and organization.

  • Audits: Assist in the preparation for and conduct of external audits.
