This position is based in Pittsburgh, PA.The Senior Component Engineer is responsible for standardizing, selecting, validating, and managing components, ensuring they meet quality, cost, regulatory, and availability requirements.Accountabilities:<ul><li>Develop, maintain, and unify standardized component requirements and material specifications across global products and projects to ensure consistency and quality</li><li>Proactively mitigate supply chain risks by monitoring obsolescence, shortages, and identifying suitable alternatives</li><li>Analyze technical specifications, interpret test results, select and qualify components by component and/or product technical specifications</li><li>Provide technical guidance and support to supply chain, project and manufacturing teams</li><li>Provide technical expertise by identifying, assessing, and negotiating with suppliers to ensure consistency and quality</li><li>Manage documentation, including datasheets, end-of-life notices, and change histories</li><li>Ensure components meet applicable internal and external regulations and quality standards</li><li>Investigate component issues, perform failure analysis, and establish corrective actions</li><li>Work closely with design engineers to select parts that meet performance requirements, while considering availability, cost and compliance, helping prevent delays, and costly redesign</li><li>Provide mentorship to other Component Engineers</li><li>Adhere to safety and quality guidelines and company policies</li></ul>Must have the ability to:<ul><li>Read and interpret technical drawings, circuit diagrams, and schematics</li><li>Adhere to core values of safety and integrity, taking responsibility for actions and compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements</li><li>Prepare detailed engineering reports and documentation</li><li>Manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines</li><li>Understand team metrics, factors affecting and ideas to improve</li><li>Understand processes and provide ideas for improvement</li><li>Quickly learn and adapt to new engineering design tools and technologies</li><li>Work both independently with minimal supervision and as a collaborative team member across various cultures and geographies</li><li>Lift or lower items weighing &lt; 24lbs (10.9kg) and Push or Pull efforts &lt; 42lbs (19kg)</li></ul>Required skills/experience:<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline with minimum 10 years of relevant experience or a 2-year degree in Electronics with minimum 15 years of relevant experience or equivalent education with minimum 15 years of relevant experience</li><li>In-depth knowledge of electrical, electronics, electromechanical and mechanical parts, including component selection, evaluation, testing, and material specification</li><li>Demonstrated understanding of form, fit, function equivalency for multiple-source components and application acceptability</li><li>Great attention to detail as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills</li><li>Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills</li></ul>Desired skills/experience:Experience with 2D/3D CAD Modeling Tools, as well as Product Lifecycle Management SystemsLanguage:English ProficiencyBenefits: Hitachi Rail employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package including Competitive Pay, Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance, Short &amp; Long Term Disability, Life &amp; Accident Insurance, Flexible Spending Accounts, a Retirement Savings Plan, and Paid Vacation.
