Job Description:Reporting to the Director-Fleet Management, the Senior Mechanic is a skilled technician who handles complex mechanical diagnoses and repairs, while also providing technical guidance, scheduling, and oversight to other mechanics. This role involves leading a team in maintaining and repairing a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment, performing advanced diagnostics, and ensuring quality standards are met through inspections and record-keeping. Job Responsibilities:<ul><li>Environmental and Health &amp; Safety (H&amp;S)<ul><li>Strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.</li><li>Provides a safe environment for all employees, customers and visitors.</li></ul></li><li>Operational Performance &amp; Best Practices<ul><li>Perfrm complex diagnoses and repairs on a wide range of equipment.</li><li>Troubleshoot and repair major assemblies like engines, transmissions, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, air compressors, gps systems, etc.</li><li>Perform safety and preventive maintenance inspections on equipment and vehicles.</li><li>Provide technical direction and functional supervision to mechanics.</li><li>Schedule and assing work to the maintenance team.</li><li>Inspect the work of others to ensure quality control standards are met.</li><li>Train junior mechanics on proper and safe work procedures.</li><li>Oversee the maintenance and repair of equipment and vehicles during an assigned shift.</li><li>Schedule maintenance activities based on priorities.</li><li>Maintain detailed records of repairs, time and materials used.</li><li>Use MaintainX to track work orders.</li><li>Assist in preparing performance evaluations.</li><li>Communicate with other departments, supervisors, and equipment operators to coordinate repairs and address needs.</li><li>Deal with vendor and contractors.</li></ul></li></ul>Job Qualifications:<ul><li>High School Diploma/GED required</li><li>Technical diploma or Tradesperson certification are a plus</li><li>Up to 5 years construction/jobsite experience</li><li>Up to 5 years Heavy Machinery or similar; drill rigs a plus</li><li>Previous experience troubleshooting skills in the areas of hydraulics, diesel engines and electrical systems</li><li>Experience with controls (encoders, CANBUS, linear transducers, PLC, etc)</li><li>Heavy equipment diagnostics (CAT, Cummins)</li><li>Welding and fabrication</li><li>Excellent judgement and able to make responsible decisions</li><li>Excellent people skills and an enthusiastic attitude</li><li>High level of professionalism, judgement, and strong work ethic</li><li>Ability to work independently without constant direction</li><li>Effective verbal and written communication skills. Should be able to adapt communication style to suit different audiences both internally and externally</li><li>This position requires the successful candidate to have a valid driver's license and provide proof that s/he has a valid driver's license upon being hired.</li></ul>Nextracker offers a comprehensive benefits package.
