We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.</p><h2>Overview</h2><p>As a Senior Flight Test Aircraft Engineer, you will play a key role in the flight test team working with flight test, engineering, and maintenance teams to ensure flight test aircraft are configured correctly to conduct tests. This position is a fast paced, execution-focused role working across disciplines to resolve engineering issues through daily interaction with program managers, engineering SMEs, manufacturing, flight test, aircraft maintenance, quality, and safety teams.</p><h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul> <li>Establish and communicate aircraft engineering configuration, coordinating with flight test planning, engineering, maintenance, and manufacturing teams.</li> <li>Manage experimental airworthiness certificates, operating limitations, and related authorizations.</li> <li>Maintain mass properties accounting and define test-specific configurations to meet flight requirements.</li> <li>Update maintenance and inspection plans to capture engineering lessons learned.</li> <li>Support major alterations and develop/approve minor aircraft modifications for flight test.</li> <li>Apply advanced engineering knowledge to optimize aircraft availability and support flight test objectives.</li> <li>Serve as primary liaison between flight test and engineering for issue resolution, squawk management, and incorporation of design fixes.</li> <li>Track and close engineering actions to maintain readiness for flight operations and campaigns.</li> <li>Manage aircraft/test restrictions based on open squawks.</li> <li>Oversee requests for configuration changes and ensure work instructions are sufficient for maintenance execution.</li> <li>Coordinate maintenance planning for modifications, inspections, and replacements.</li> <li>Troubleshoot maintenance issues and support post-maintenance checks with engineering/flight test teams.</li> <li>Generate and close work orders; maintain accurate aircraft documentation.</li> <li>Contribute to spares planning.</li></ul><h2>Required</h2><ul> <li>Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent experience</li> <li>5+ years' experience in flight test, aircraft development programs, and maintenance operations</li> <li>Demonstrated expert level skill in technical communication and inter-personal skills</li> <li>Ability to work on afternoon or evening</li> <li>Ability to work from multiple sites, some remote</li> <li>Demonstrated leadership of complex engineering projects</li> <li>Self-directed to solve open-ended technical and scheduling problems</li></ul><p> </p><p>Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $135,100 - $180,200/yr.
