This role plays a key part in fostering a culture of safety and compliance across our research, testing, and development labs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in lab operations, facility systems, and safety regulations to drive risk reduction and support continuous improvement.What you’ll do<ul><li>Conduct hazard analyses and safety assessments for laboratory equipment, infrastructure, and facility systems (e.g., HVAC, gas delivery, power distribution). </li><li>Support the design, setup, and relocation of lab equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards and best practices. </li><li>Monitor and maintain safety systems, including ventilation (fume hoods, cleanrooms), emergency power, fire suppression, gas detection, and containment systems. </li><li>Partner with EHS, Facilities, and Lab Managers to identify, mitigate, and track risks related to equipment use, electrical loads, chemical storage, and space layout. </li><li>Investigate safety incidents and equipment failures; perform root cause analysis and drive corrective actions. </li><li>Lead or support internal audits, regulatory inspections, and routine safety walkthroughs. </li><li>Develop and deliver safety training for lab personnel on topics such as proper equipment use, emergency procedures, and PPE. </li><li>Maintain documentation including safety data sheets (SDS), equipment logs, calibration records, and compliance reports. </li><li>Support emergency preparedness planning, including drills, response coordination, and business continuity planning. </li><li>Oversee the inspection, testing, and maintenance (ITM) of fire alarms, sprinklers, suppression systems, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, exit signage, and egress pathways. </li><li>Conduct fire risk assessments and life safety audits for buildings, labs, and high-occupancy areas. </li><li>Participate in incident investigations involving fire hazards or life safety system failures; recommend and implement corrective actions. </li><li>Maintain fire safety documentation, ITM logs, permits, and compliance records. </li><li>Serve as liaison with local fire departments, code officials and regulatory agencies as needed</li></ul>What you need<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Safety Engineering, or a related field.</li><li>5+ years of experience in laboratory safety, facilities engineering, or EHS within a technical or research environment.</li><li>Experience with lithium-ion battery safety, including handling, storage, and risk mitigation.</li><li>Knowledge of applicable standards and codes (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, ISO, ASHRAE, EPA).</li><li>Knowledge of lab and building infrastructure systems (ventilation, compressed gas systems, electrical panels, etc.).</li><li>Experience working with fire alarm control panels, suppression systems, smoke control systems, and emergency power systems.</li><li>Strong communication, project management, and organizational skills.</li><li>Comfortable working hands-on in a dynamic, cross-functional lab environment.</li></ul>Bonus Qualifications<ul><li>Strong risk assessment and hazard analysis skills. </li><li>Excellent problem-solving abilities, particularly in industrial or high-risk environments. Proficient in safety management systems and tools for hazard identification and mitigation. </li><li>Ability to communicate complex safety information effectively to both technical and non-technical personnel</li><li>Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
